Chapter 1

He is a businessman with a cunning and intelligent personality. He despises weakness. Does the Devil ever fall for anyone? Not yet. But he will fall for someone who is completely innocent and naïve—her, the complete opposite of his usual type... she became his angel.

It's not love at first sight; it's a slow-burning love between the angel and the devil.

"Hey, Gauri, you're so innocent..."

(Gauri, you're too naïve.)

Gauri glanced at her friend Swara for further commentary.

"Yes, she's the most clueless person I've ever met," Ruchi added.

"Hey, can you guys stop talking about my innocence and focus on your food?" Gauri finally interjected, unable to bear her friends' teasing. They were her college friends, reunited after a long time, reminiscing about their first meeting in college.

"Look at Jiya; she's eating quietly. Can't you ever be like her?" Gauri remarked. Ruchi smiled widely.

"Jiya's just in a mood swing because of her pregnancy; otherwise, she's the most talkative among us," Ruchi explained. Jiya glared at Ruchi, who ignored it as usual.

"Ruchi, be careful; pregnant women are very dangerous," Swara warned, making Gauri chuckle.

"Like you were during your pregnancy days..." Gauri teased.

Swara looked at her in awe, surprised by Gauri's savage comeback.

"Gauri, that's why I like you—because of your occasional savageness," Jiya said.

"This is fine, but Gauri, how can you be so innocent?" Ruchi teased again. Gauri glared at her.

"Ruchi, for the last time, I am not innocent!" Gauri exclaimed loudly. The man sitting behind them turned toward them and looked at Gauri.

"Gauri, calm down," Ruchi pulled her back into her seat. Gauri looked at the man behind them and apologized.

The man didn't say anything and returned to his food.

"Hriday, get to the point and tell me what you want."

"Dad, you spent your holiday with Mom; I'll take care of her here..."

"But Hriday..."

"Dad, good night."

Hriday ended the call and looked toward the source of the laughter.

He was currently sitting in an average-looking restaurant in Kolkata. It wasn't as luxurious as he preferred, but his only focus now was to finish his coffee and leave.

"These stupid teenage girls," Hriday muttered under his breath.

"I said I am not innocent!!"

The voice reached his ears just as he was peacefully checking his email.

He didn't want to look, but he found a group of girls chatting with each other, and one of them stood up from her seat and spoke those words.

The girl didn't look particularly beautiful, but what caught Hriday's attention were her eyes and lips—they were captivating and alluring.

The girl quickly made eye contact with him for a few seconds, then broke it instantly and apologized softly.

Hriday felt something stir in his heart, so he quickly looked back at his food.

"Stupid heart..." Hriday muttered.

His phone rang again, pulling him out of his thoughts.

It was a call from Mom. Hriday smiled and answered.

"Hello, Mom."

"I'm Dad, talking to my dear son."

"Ugh, Dad, I said I will handle it right... Don't worry about me."

Hriday said.

"Who do you think I'm worried about? I'm worried about the employees and our house helpers."

His dad replied from the other side.

"Dad—"

"For God's sake, Shikar, it's 12 PM in London. I'm so sleepy. If you want to talk to your son, go out and talk. Let me sleep."

"I-I... Sorry, darling... I'm going out. Please sleep."

Shikar said to his wife. Maithili turned and slept on the bed, showing her back to him, angry for not taking her shopping.

Shikar came out from their room and sat in the living room.

"Dad, did you do something?" Hriday asked his father.

"Why do you think I always do something, Hriday?"

"Because you do."

"Your mother's legs are aching due to her nonstop shopping here... so I refused her today and told her to take rest in her room. We'll go shopping tomorrow, and since then, she's been behaving like this."

Hriday shook his head hearing this.

He knew his father was a 'Joru ka Gulam' (henpecked husband).

"Dad, my best wishes are with you, and if you need any help from your son, then I'm clearly saying that I'm out of this 'Miya-Bibi' fight. Bye, take care, Dad."

"Brat!!"

Hriday heard and cut the call.

"Bye, guys!"

Jiya said and sat in the auto.

"Sweetheart, how are you going?" Ruchi asked.

"Suraj is coming to take me... I'm going... bye, guys..." Sweta said as her husband was coming, so she walked toward the area where he was going to pick her up.

"Ruchi, how are you going?" Gauri asked.

"I'll take the bus. That will be easier for me to reach home," Ruchi said.

"Shall we go to the bus stop?" Gauri suggested.

"How are you going, Gauri?" Ruchi asked.

"I have to meet a client; after that, I'll go home."

"Okay then, bye, Gauri."

"Meet you next time," Ruchi said and saw her bus coming, so she went away, bidding goodbye.
